I'm a huge fan of Amarone wine but it is very expensive and needs 10 years of aging before it is just right. I read an article today in our local paper about these baby Amarone wines that are made from adding "less precious Valpolicella red to the springtime lees left over from the fermentation of actual Amarone."

They call these wines "ripasso" wines and the one I'm drinking, a 2005 Masi Campofiorin, is delicious. I'll report more about it later.
