Unemployed DH has been busy! He built me 2 new winter beds for my garden! We have to break down our main bed cause gophers have gotten through the old wire, so we have to decomission the big bed for awhile.
I have planted beets, carrots, celery, radishes, onions, lettuces, broccoli, chard, kale, kholrabi, brussel sprouts, garlic. I think that's it. I'm still getting lots of tomatoes, basil (making a ton of pesto tomorrow) a few yellow squash, chard, bell peppers, eggplant and all my herbs!
I've made several gallons of tomato sauce and am going to start dehydrating tomatoes, squash and fall fruits to put in the freezer.
I'm a happy camper!
My next move is to move the chickens closer to the garden/compost bin, so I can put the chicken stuff right into the compost bin.
Love love love my garden! |

ah lucky you west coasters....
today is my rip up the garden day - tomatoes & peppers have had it - a few green & banana peppers worth saving. I've huge good looking lima bean vines (climbers) but they won't produce anything more. I was very disappointed with this year's variety "King of the Garden" - only variety on the shelf locally but not gonna' do them next year. |

We officially ripped out the garden last weekend--fence and all. Next year, we'll do raised beds, but this first year in the house we just used what was here.
Here's to hoping that next year's yield will be a little more impressive than 6 tomatoes, 2 jalapenos, a bunch of cucumbers and at least a dozen very happy and very full deer! |
