SOWELA Technical Community College
SOWELA Technical Community College has been educating the region’s workforce since 1940 when it first opened its doors to students. The college was created by an act of the Louisiana State Legislature in 1938 and has been known by several different names since it was established. Grambling State University offers a bachelor’s degree program in Hotel/Restaurant Management with the ability for students to complete a concentration in Food and Beverage.The school has three food labs with one of them set up as an institutional kitchen. South Louisiana Community College
SLCC, established in 1997, was created as a public, two-year institution of higher learning with campuses in Lafayette and New Iberia. Students in Culinary Arts and Occupations learn about recipe and menu planning, preparing and cooking foods, supervising and training kitchen assistants, the management of food supplies and kitchen resources, aesthetics of food presentation, and mastery of a wide variety of cuisines and culinary techniques. Students can earn either an associate’s degree or technical diploma in this program.
